Welcome to Savoie Studio
Welcome to my studio. I appreciate your visit, and I would be honored if you chose to subscribe. This is a space where I create and share things that are entirely mine: my words, ideas, experiments, and whatever else takes shape along the way. If you found yourself here, even by accident, I hope you will stay awhile.
I started this site with one purpose and then immediately changed course. After losing my job, I originally imagined it as a professional hub: a place to represent myself and perhaps find new work. But as I began building it, I realized that what I wanted more was a place to share a piece of myself. I have always felt an urge to put thoughts into the world, even when I was unsure whether anyone would value them or respond. Now I have both an outlet and, for the moment, the time to see what happens when I take that urge seriously.
That urge is closely tied to who I am and how I move through the world. I am many things, in no particular order: a parent, a non-binary person, an atheist, a progressive, and someone who tries to lead with kindness and compassion. Although my name is Matthew Savoie, I have never felt especially at home in "Matthew," and I am still looking for a name that feels more like mine. If you return later and find that I am using a different name, this is why. But for now, you can call me M.
Being in an in-between space makes it difficult to promise exactly what this site will become, but I do not see that as a problem. I am passionate about many things, and I want this to be a place where those interests have room to grow and occasionally intersect in unexpected ways. I believe most people have limited power on their own, and that we need one another to build a better future. I care about collective action, curiosity, and making room for people to be human. I also care about stories, ideas, technology, fantasy, music, and the strange directions an interest can take when given enough attention. You may find fiction, poetry, technical writing, philosophy, experiments, or links to my imperfect karaoke here. You may find something I have not yet imagined. What I promise is that it will be genuine.
Of course, having a place to share does not make sharing easy. I was on MySpace early, posted political thoughts on Twitter when it was still Twitter, and spent years learning that posting into a feed can sometimes feel like shouting into a void. I still share memes and ideas with my best friend nearly every day. Yet I worry that what I share is not good enough, not useful enough, or not worth the time, attention, and lasting record of putting it online. Sometimes I post something and immediately regret it. Sometimes I delete it. Still, the itch to share remains, and I have decided that it deserves a home.
So that is what Savoie Studio is for. I want you to be here—but I want you to want to be here. I will not pander or beg for attention. I will simply try to make things worth encountering, be as kind as I can be, and correct myself when I get something wrong. Hopefully this will not be my last post. It would be very funny if it were, but not funny enough to stop me from beginning.
